Lake County Planning and Zoning denies approval for CEMEX sand mine!

The Lake County Planning and Zoning Board has voted, 4 -1, to deny the proposed development of a 30 year, 1,200 acre sand mine that would be adjacent to Southern Hill Farm’s property! The sand mine would decimate Lake County’s rare rolling hill landscape (rare in Central Florida at least) and eradicate Schofield Road’s small farming community, as well as bring a host of other issues to the local Clermont area. The battle to stop the sand mine is still far from over, but this is one small victory for the farmers and residents of Lake County! Read about it in the Orlando Sentinel, below.
